VINICUNCA
Vinicunca, also known as the Rainbow Mountain is Cusco’s newest attraction because for its magnificence and beauty.
ITINERARY
The journey starts really early with a pick up from your accommodation in Cusco around 3:00 to 3:30 am. It’s about 3:30 hrs ride so is time to relax during the bus ride.
Around 7:00 am you will arrive in Qesiuno located about 4 000 masl so make sure to bring a warm jacket and a fleece because of the winds might be strong in the area. Once we have stretched our legs we can have our breakfast served by our cook. At 8:00 am we’ll have an small briefing in order to reach our objective. Pay attention to the instruction of our guide.
Then the trekking starts !!! It might be quite demanding at the begining specially if you are not used to the altitude. There is also the option of hiring a horse, you should test yourself the first 30 minutes and then decide if you are able to continue by foot or riding a horse, the second part is quite easy, its pretty flat until the checkpoint at Qayrawiri.
Along the way you will enjoy beautiful views so be sure to bring extra batteries for your devices just not to loose a good picture, this is a remote area so it will take some time to your camera to get used to the altitude. The final part could be quite demanding so make sure to bring some extra snacks to have a boost of energy and reach the top. Once you arrived in Vinicunca an overwhelming feeling will catch you and you just need to contact with the mountain and its beauty. Enjoy your time and make sure to the enough pictures before to come back. The way back will be much easier, around 2 hours.
When you will arrive in Qesiuno, take some break before enjoy our lunch and take the bus back to Cusco. Take advantage of the ride back to take the last pictures

Level of difficulty: Depends. If you are in good physical condition and you are used to the altitude, it will be easy to moderate. If you come from a sea level country and have no previous training it is moderate to difficult. Vinicunca is 5200 masl so please take it seriously; level of oxygen in your body at this altitude could caused you headaches and heart issues. If so, bring some Oxishot and chew some coca leaves; it is really helpful with altitude sickness.
